I had a Karat interview where I was able to answer the first coding question but didn't have time to move on to second question. Karat allows a redo for interviews, where CZI is supposed to take the stronger of the two interviews, so I also did a second interview with Karat. During the second interview, I completed the coding question as well as had time to discuss and begin (but not finish) the implementation of the second coding question. Interviewer provided feedback that it was ok that I didn't finish implementation and seemed to agree with my verbalized approach. Based off of feedback from interviewer as well as my own performance on both the coding and system design sections, I felt I had a strong interview, but was still rejected without any feedback. Feels a bit odd that interviews are outsourced to Karat, and you don't get the opportunity to learn anything about CZI from someone who actually works there.

I interviewed with Karat. In my first attempt, they asked me 3 short system design questions and then 2 coding questions (graph and greedy + DP). I thought I could do better in the redo, so I scheduled another attempt. In the second attempt, I was asked 1 database question and 1 system design question in just 15 minutes, and I only had time to solve one coding question because it was so lengthy and difficult to understand. Overall, the questions were hard to understand. I wish they were shorter and more to the point instead of copy-pasted into 100 lines. That way, candidates could reasonably solve each medium-to-hard difficulty question in about 10 minutes, especially since the interviewer spends around 5 minutes just reading the question. I also wish I had the chance to meet someone at CZI and do pair programming instead of interviewing through Karat. I hope the interview process can be improved.
