I applied online and received an email from a recruiter the following day. Good sign right? Wrong. The recruiter scheduled a date and time for the initial screening the following week. When the day came, I received an email literally 5 minutes before the call, asking to reschedule as a the recruiter was stuck in a meeting. No biggie. Things come up. The recruiter reschedules for the following day at the same time. The following day comes, the time passes. I email 30 minutes after our scheduled time to inquire what happened and suggest another time, as something else may have come up. No response. I received the rejection email the following day.
I was rejected through no fault of my own, nothing changed on the resume from the initial contact to rejection, and we had not had a chance to speak on the phone. It reflects terribly on a Recruiter to miss not one, but two scheduled appointments, so the easiest way out is to reject the candidate (without even speaking to them AFTER you reached out initially).
Moral of the story: Hopefully you get a decent recruiter to actually initiate the process.
