      Entrevista de Software Engineer

      Solicitud

Envié una solicitud electrónica. El proceso duró 3 meses. Acudí a una entrevista en Bloomberg (New York, NY) en jul 2018

      Entrevista

My background: 2018 new grad, liberal arts college, CS Major I just applied online, and maybe a couple weeks (?) later was requested a phone interview. This was a technical one with an engineer. We ran through my resume a bit, and then worked on two problems. The first was a warmup, and the second was a little more involved. My solution was something resembling dynamic programming. Interviewer was helpful, an guided me through the process, giving me hints, and evolving the problem as we went. Overall pleasant. A couple days after that, I got an email inviting me to an on-site. They listed four possible dates, two in June, two in July (it was May then). I chose the earlier July date. I had about one full month to prepare, and I did a few LeetCode questions every day, as well as reviewing algorithms and data structures. They provide travel arrangements. You go through an agency to book to and from flights, and they give you a hotel room. They also provide access to their black cab service, which is free. I wasn't sure if you were supposed to tip the drivers though. I got held up at checkin so I missed the building tour, but my first interviewers came and got me from a waiting area. The first two interviews were technical. Each with two interviewers and two questions. Each session had brief questions about my resume, as well as opportunities to ask them questions. My interviewers were pleasant, and was willing to help if I got stuck. In each session, the first question was a warmup, and the second a little more involved. Between the 1st and 2nd interviews, I got a lunch Apparently, if you don't do well on the first two, you're done there, but if you did alright you get a couple more. The third was a HR person who asked me about my resume in depth, and asked about salary expectations. She also answered any questions I had. Typical "why Bloomberg" that kind of stuff. The fourth was with a Senior Engineer / team lead, who came alone. There was some resume discussion, and then two questions. The first was a regular coding question that was done on paper. I just discussed it with him, and didn't write a single line of code. The second was a little brain teaser which took me off guard, but he led me through it. I was shown out after that.

      Pregunta 1

Mostly LeetCode Easy level questions. Topics included dynamic programming, arrays, object-oriented design, graphs/trees (nothing like Dijkstra's ), space-time trade off, being conscious of allotted space, some mathematical/statistical concepts (though they'll explain if you're unfamiliar). Space and time complexity analyses seemed to be emphasized, so know how to do those. I provided multiple answers to all the questions, so maybe that helps.

15 minutes talking about resume, 45 minutes for 2 medium leetcode style coding questions (using code share), the interviewer was very friendly and communication is even more important than passing all test cases.

      Entrevista

Overall, it was a positive and professional interview experience, though the interviewer was on the stricter side. Unfortunately, I was dealing with an illness and wasn't able to prepare as thoroughly as I wanted to, which left me feeling a bit off throughout the conversation. Despite not feeling my best and facing a tough interviewer, the process was well-structured.

Fairly simple. Phone call then onsite. For onsite it was 10 min office tour follow by 1 hr interview then 1 hours system design and 30 mins manager interview. Interviewers were nice and the recruiter was accommodating.
