      Entrevista

Months after applying for the position of Program Assistant, I received a surprise email asking if I was still interested in the position. I promptly responded " Yes" with enthusiasm, thinking that here is my great opportunity. The executive director responded 3 days later asking to set up an initial phone interview for the following Monday at 12pm, which I agreed and confirmed. Even though I already had a job I still wanted to interview for this position. However, the executive director waited until Monday at 11am to cancel and send a new interview request. I should have known then that this is was a going to be a very bad experience. Nevertheless, I respectfully agreed to reschedule for the next day at 12. On that Tuesday, at 12 again no phone calls. I went online and found the phone number of the company and called the secretary. I explained that I was schedule for a phone interview… Few minutes later, there goes the executive director who finally calls. The apologized for the delay and proceeded to the interview, it latest about an hour. I must admit that she was very friendly. Afterwards, she states that me she would send out an email by the end of the day regarding the next step in the hiring process. I waited 3 days for this email that finally came on Thursday late in the evening. She said that the interview went well, she was excited. She was interested, and asked me when I would be available to start, also she wanted me to go visit the office and the staff for a meet and greet on Friday. I agreed, and on Friday I went to the headquarters of the ASA. To my big surprise, she was not there and as soon as I walked into the office, the staff (only 2 women) took me directly into the conference room and proceeded to a new interview. This was not a meet a greet but a hostile questioning from staff members who I felt from the beginning seemed very nervous and uneasy. Why? I don’t know! The same questions kept coming back: Why do you want to work here? And they made comments such as: The job might be very boring at times but it’s ok! They painted a grim picture of the company. Long story short, from that interview, the executive director kept literally lying on email regarding letting me know whether or not I did or did not get the position. For example: She would say things like, hey I will contact you no later than next Monday regarding our final decision. Then, I would not hear from her for two weeks. I would then send another email reminding her about our interview and she would do the exact same thing. Because I felt so disrespected for the lack of consideration, and I was not going to let go off that easy. In my career, I have applied to hundreds of jobs and went to dozens of interviews, but this was the worst. Whether or not, they did not want me there, I needed her to be an executive director and be courteous enough to say it…. It was bad enough that she reached out to me almost 3 months after I applied, and then all of sudden after what was supposed to be a routine meet and greet change up on me… As you see I am still upset for the lack of professionalism of this organization.
