Ventajas

1. Rather flexible in working hour. People leave/arrived early if nothing is chasing their schedule. 2. Most senior are quite helpful in general. Technical guidance will usually provided for people with short of experience. But do don't expect its a baby sitting session since everyone is busy with their work.

Desventajas

1. Fake Benefit - The amount of AL is rather standard, but utilising those leave is often quite challenging. If employee plan to take long leave its always required to get approval from management couple months ahead. If such leave will cause disturbance to project, management will not happy about it and some of them will rant it to other employees. On paper employee can carry foward the AL. In reality employee had to proof that they can't utilized the leave within this year, else such carry foward request will be rejected. This indirectly force employee to utilize their leave in the most unfavorable date and its often short and not travellable. Burning AL is quite common here. 2. Fake Benefit 2 - On paper, If an employee was unfortunately had to work for weekend or OT they are subjected to claim off in lieu (OIL). In reality, OIL approval was subjected to the remaining project hour and management approval (Refer point 5 for project hour). If employee alrd running low on project hour they will never get their OIL approved (a.k.a. Charity work). Working during weekend or public holiday is suprisingly common here as alot of the implementation can only carry out while client plant was down. If OIL request was not submitted after employee weekend work, project engineer will default no work was done in weekend (This can saved their hour up to boots their margin) 3. Redundancy Work to Promote - Had to praise the company to bring this out openly rather than hiding it. But its still felt regarded to do so. Employee careers progression will come to a stall once hit certain level, unless they complete some of these redundancy work to proof they can merge well with the company. Some example redundancy work include flower pot gardening, first aid, wellness, ims etc etc. For slacker, joining these redundancy work it's just another good opportunity for them to slack even more. For engineer with high workload or doing long term site work, they will never have the time for these redundancy work and there will always be a wall infront of their career progression here. 4. Heavily Unbalance Workload - Workload distribution is extremely skewed depending on department/team/seniority/management that employee work with. Some individual are so chill that they can enter late, leave early, long lunch, break, nap, games, chat; while some other team work day and night on site and barely get enough sleep. Weekend, PH work is norm for some engineers while other's barely require to OT. (P.S. That's why the "work-life balance" review here are so distinct between diff review) 5. Micromanagement Timesheet - Its actually quite common that SI charge client in hourly based. Nearly everyone in this field do this. But at here employee working hour are heavily bind to these sales hour. So dispite the fact that employee don't need clock in out, employee do require to record a timesheet stating which hour was spent on which project for how long for what task. So every project that's undersold will be employee responsibility to OT to gain the discount hour back. Else the project will "delay" due to insufficient hour. Management will hope employee can achive 10 hour work with 2 hour spent. So they can keep even higher margin. If project was sold in another country where currency is weaker than SGD. Employee would need to further speed up their work to compensate that currency lost. 6. Politic - Politic does available in both inter/intra department. Some major some minor. But its still within an acceptable range. 7. Incapable Employee - Most senior here are quite good at certain or multiple domains. But there are few exceptional which is rather bad in both technical and/or project management skill. So its quite luck dependent who you working with. Junior wise however, nearly half of them are enjoying sweet time and slacking, utilising the graduated privilage. 8. Bias Department Resources - Department are splited based on the industry they serving. Department who served industry with higher profit margin (Example Data Centre) are typically equipped with more resources. (More manpower; more project hours for each individuals; and more senior involvement). While engineer who work in department that suffered from intense industry competition are often to be more isolated, less project hour, require more OT work, more indepenent work. But when come to progression, those who generating more profit are still being preferred. Employees who worked in later department are often less bond with each other, more selfish, more ego, lesser teamworking and more politic. 9. Travel Required - (This might be pros for some employees) Automation market in Singapore are quite matured. In order to seek for further gorwth, company will always reach out for more oversea project. Employees are expected to travel within short notice period for random duration to random destination depending on project need. Travel allowance are not garuntee as it depend on how the project being quoted to clients. Even such travel allowance was included in the project agreement, management will still shrink the actual allowance distributed to employees so they can further boots their profit margin.
