Ventajas
Great place to build your personal service skills with the average customer. Like most retail management, this job is all about multi-tasking, if your skills are a weakness here, you will learn very quickly. If you run a good store, and it is profitable individually, you do not have too much interfearence from district management. Although management works a 50 hour week, you are permitted to schedule yourself where you want to work, within limitations. Rotate weekends with your assistant(s), and work an evening shift, and you should be able to work almost anything else you need. There is an annual company trade show / conference that is very structured, but very informative, and best of all fun.
Desventajas
Due to stock exchange issues, the company is very frugal. There are some communications issues between all levels that can tend to confuse priorities, though there seems to be a focus on improving this issue in fy10. Annual evaluations are nothing more than a necessity. Supervisors are told that they must explain and document in detail why they rate a manager's performance 'outstanding" for each different catagory. Due to this some supervisors knowingly choose not to select "outstanding" to avoid having to explain themselves. Core store technology is ancient. This is due to integration cost associated with the purchase of Brooks/Eckerd. FY10 should start to see this improving, with store layouts also being updated.
