This week Monday, January 4th truABILITY at Micro Focus Celebrated World Braille Day. World Braille Day raises awareness of those visually impaired or blind, is celebrated on January 4th. Celebrated since 2019, World Braille Day coincides with Louis Braille’s birthday. Born in France in 1809, Louis became blind after a childhood accident left him without his sight. He quickly mastered his new way of living. At the age of just 15, inspired by Charles Barbier's night reading system that used a 6x6 square of raised dots to form letters, Louis tweaked Barbier’s invention into the tactile writing and reading system we know today as braille.

2020 was an exciting year as some of our Micro Focus Costa Rica women professionals hosted an Inspiring-Girls virtual collaboration with students from Colegio El Carmen de Biolley. Inspiring Girls #CostaRica has established itself as a dynamic and ambitious team. Alongside school talks, speed-networking, and work-place visits, they’ve partnered with different organisations to run STEM-themed workshops, raising girl's confidence through fun activities in subjects as varied from electronics and robotics to 3D printing and design.
