Deceitful Owner Who Looks to Take Advantage of You

You'll have lots of work to do, despite being grossly underpaid. Looks decent on a resume. Lunch time is okay. There are no other pros.
Desventajas
This company is a joke. It’s a tiny office in the middle of no where with about 5 employees, including the owner. You’ll be the only one there who speaks fluent English. The owner is a 60-something year old Korean man with broken English who's very stubborn, very bitter, and often out of touch with reality. If you make a mistake, he’ll bring it up for months. He’ll also talk about you behind your back to other employees, and then do the same to them. To say he's childish is an understatement, as he's entirely unaware of his own immaturity. Some sketchy business practices too, which I’ll cover later. He’ll try to walk all over you if you let him. You have to make it clear to him that you’re not a push over. That will create tension, because he doesn’t like his employees to have a backbone. He’d prefer that you don’t defend yourself when he’s fussing at you about petty, trivial nonsense that may not even involve you. You will have many arguments with him in which he will try to twist your words. He also has a hard time getting to the point when he speaks. A conversation that only needs to be 5 minutes long will last about 30. He loves to lecture, and after about a week, his whiny, scratchy voice will drive you insane. He’ll have you do a lot of work that's not covered in your job description - for an insulting pay. No matter what position he actually hired you for, your duties will include Office Assistance, Personal Assistance, Accounts Receivable, Customer Service, Sales Representative, and endless Graphic Design projects ALL for the low low wage of $10 an hour. That’s what a busboy makes. If you want a raise, you better be ready to fight for that wage renegotiation, because he will resist every step of the way and claim that you aren’t worth more than $10. He’s a cheap man who wants cheap labor, despite the unrealistic expectations that come with that labor. You’ll also notice that he’s a stooge. Literally. He’ll do ridiculous things daily, like printing your check on paper that has stuff printed on it already. Or repeatedly needing your help to rid his computer of the viruses he keeps installing. Or sometimes walking around without a shirt on. Or leaving urine on the toilet seat. Or asking you to forge a signature via photoshop (as if that's not highly illegal.) Or blatantly lying to his customers while expecting you to deal with the the backlash as he hides in his office. I really wish I was making this stuff up, but sadly, I am not. Everyday, it was something new with him. As for job security, I saw four employees get fired and/or replaced during my time there. Only one was justified. (Stealing) The second left because she was only getting paid $9 an hour and refused to do any more work. The third quit after one day because he already couldn't stand the owner. The fourth was me. One day he fired me out of the blue. When I asked why, he gave me about 5 different reasons which all contradicted each other. After some more probing, I realized his company is struggling financially and he didn’t want to keep paying me the new wage that we agreed on. We also just didn’t get along, as you can probably tell. What’s important for you to know is that this is a pattern with him. Most of the new people he hires only last about 6-8 months. After that, he’ll find a reason get rid of them or they quit. Especially if you’re a designer. He’ll keep you long enough to get some good designs out of you, and then he’ll fire you while continuing to make money from your designs. I witnessed him actively avoid hiring experienced professionals because he fears them. He knows they won't work for cheap, so he looks for young, naive people that are easier to manipulate. This is how he runs his company. So I’d advise anyone serious about their career to stay away from this shady place and its equally shady owner unless you want to be taken advantage of.
