### You have 8 pennies, 7 weight the same, one weighs less. you also have a judges scale. Find the one that weighs less in less than 3 steps.

A better answer: Split the 8 pennies into 3 groups of 3,3,2 pennies. Weight the first two groups of 3 pennies each. Case 1) - They weight the same. Therefore, take third group of 2 pennies and find the lighter coin. Case 2) Group 1 weights more than Group 2. Take group 2 (3 pennies) and pick any 2 out of 3. If they weight the same, then the third penny is lighter. Answer is trivial if they don't weight the same. It works for any scenario. Always split the groups in 3. Menos

Neil has it right. Dave - the question says less than three steps.

I Can do it in one step: Look at the year on the pennies. If 7 pennies weigh the same it means that all 7 were manufactured either before or after 1982, when the mint changed the composition of the coin from solid copper to copper with a zinc core. the one that weighs differently was minted on the opposite side of 1982 as the 7 other pennies. ### For a 1GHz bandwidth oscilloscope, what will happen if you use it to monitor a 1GHZ square wave. If the Vpp of the square wave is 1V, what's the Vpp of the waveform shown on screen.

If you measure a 1Vpp 1GHz signal with a 1GHz bandwidth scope you will see a 700mVpp signal on scope's screen. Bandwidth is rated at 3db roll off point ;-) Menos

It will show a sine wave. The oscilloscope bandwidth should be comparable to the rise and fall time of the square wave.Same question was asked to me. Menos

for a 1Vpp square wave, the amplitude of it's fundamental f0=1GHz component is 2/pi and assume the bandwidth given is 3dB bandwidth then you got half of it original amplitude at 1GHz which is 1/pi Vpp ~= 318mVpp Menos

Fill 3 quartz cup with water, pour it into the 5 quartz cup. Now 5 quartz cup is 3/5th full Again fill the 3 quartz cup and fill the remaining of 5 quartz cup using that. Now 5 quartz cup is full, and 3 quartz cup has 1 quartz water. Empty the 5 quartz cup and pour the 1 quartz water from 3 quartz cup into the 5 quartz cup.
