A un Product Designer & Design Strategist le preguntaron...10 de agosto de 2019

The most important question was how this novel product could spearpoint their attempts to reach new markets.

The original job description was that of Product Developer, I proposed to reframe the position: In order to reach these goals in a challenging in-house corporate climate one should hire someone that acts as product owner or steward that guides every aspects necessary to implement this product successfully. A holistic approach, that travels through all aspects of product development, including engineering, art direction, sales training & market research, marketing & international product representation. "Describe your design strategy." I have to write more because Glassdoor needs more than 5 words. To be clear, this is a ridiculous question as it suggests that design professionals have "their" strategy. In fact, there are many strategic approaches to design, which multiply when intermingled with various business, sales, and marketing strategies.

I described an instance in which I executed a strategic approach to an enterprise goal that balanced stakeholder input with customer centricity in context of the design process. It was clear she was not engaged as an active listener since she asked no follow up questions and simply nodded meaninglessly as she engaged in unrelated tasks on her own machine, which was painfully obvious based on the reflection on her glasses. I talked about my past work with a focus on how I engaged people: what I learned from them, what role I played. Their questions prompted my answers. I let them direct the interview(s). Menos

I invested time and money to travel to Mumbai to meet the Chief. He had no background into my profile, let alone understand the effort I made to meet him. I don't know what the questions were if there were any. The whole duration now seems as vague as a ball of cotton.

Oh, I really wish there was a question and I could answer that. I do not consider myself to be daft. Overall, this one enraged me - a waste of money on flights up and down. Menos

1 respuestas

Of course! Recently in my engineering project group, I've had a tough time advocating for my ideas and getting my point across to my two other teammates. It's taken a lot of communication and boundary-setting, but I've made it clear that I deserve the respect that the two of them give each other. From then on, communication has been a lot easier.
