Politely responded that it was variable in my current position - one of the primary reasons I was seeking this new position with such a stable company as CarMax. I mentioned that I couldn't discuss the specifics of my current remuneration, yet, although it pays well and I would likely have to take a step down in pay coming into the Buyer in Training position, I felt the career track available through their company offered a better future opportunity. I mentioned I would be more than happy to discuss details specific to their position in order to help establish my value in the market, and asked if they had a general range of salary they were budgeting for a new hire in this position.
