Scheduled me for an onsite "virtual" system design interview with 2 developers. Uneventful interview - interviewers weren't engaged or conversational. Asked me to design an image hosting service. We went through scale, fault tolerance - with 10 mins into the interview he talks about geographical distribution of data which we had not discussed as a requirement. Interviewers seem to be looking for the "right" answer rather than having a conversation. After the interview - totally ghosted. Not even a rejection email. Emailed HR for an update and nothing. What a way to treat candidates. Don't work for this company.
- Design an image hosting service like flickr.

It was smooth and fast for this level of the company. The recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn, and I got an offer in less than three weeks. The interview was a great experience overall.

The process began with a discussion with Talent acquisition who clarified salary offers and benefits, explained how the company works etc and discussed my interest in the role. I went on to complete 4 interview meetings with different people within the org and it was a pleasure to meet and speak with everyone of them! It was a difficult time with other companies rescinding but TA assured they would not be following that path because they required headcount. I was a little stressed but that's because I had picked interview times with much time in between.
- Why did I want to leave my current company

It was almost a great experience! I had 5 interviews and then complete silence, never heard from them again. Some closure would have been nice after a process like that. Recruiter didn’t answer emails, and I never heard back again from a single soul at VGS. It was a very disappointing process when all was said and done.
- Describe your experience working with a QSA and Level One merchant on the validation process.

There were 5 stages of interviews: 1. Regular interview with a recruiter, where we discussed why am I looking for a new position, what are my team and salary expectations. We also agreed on salary range(important) 2. Interview with team lead, more about soft skills, how do I communicate with the team, how I solve disagreements, what are the challenges from my previous job etc. Super relaxed conversation with nice person from VGS. 3. Programming interview - this one was really easy, as there was task for sorting some data from input file and you could use whatever you need (e.g. google it) to solve it. It is more about checking if you're familiar with the programming language you chose and also how do you approach solving tasks if you don't know something. Really cool, as that is more like a real-life thing - you don't know - you go google it :D 4. Linux/Networking/Clouds interview - this one was mixed, but the questions were really close to what you get on other SRE/devops/production engineer interview interviews. The best thing about it was discussing VPN solutions, wireguard, IPSec etc. 5. System design interview. Feedback from the team was good and I was really considering moving to this company. But then I was informed that the finance department can't approve my salary because it is much higher than the market price. And that would be completely fine as that's a valid reason, but not when we discussed salary during the first interview. The interview process with super nice. I was super happy after talking to all those smart folks and would gladly join them. But clearly, there are issues with communication between departments. So I was really disappointed with finance blocking my offer. Therefore, the overall experience is "Neutral". I highly recommend this company for the tech side of things, but make sure they confirm your salary expectations can be matched before you spend the whole month in interviews.
- Design peer-to-peer chat system architecture

I am still going through the interview process, but I felt compelled to share a review of my experience thus far - which has been excellent. I was originally contacted by the Recruitment Coordinator requesting to schedule a screening call with the Sr. Global Recruiter. Upon reviewing the dates/times she had provided, I emailed back just seeking clarification about the options because they all appeared to be between midnight and 5:00 a.m. PST. I told her I'd make it work, but just needed confirmation. She replied back immediately explaining that she was in Ireland while the Sr. Global Recruiter was based in Amsterdam. She provided dates that worked for my time zone without being asked, and I submitted my availability and the screening call was scheduled for a few days later. The screening call with the Sr. Global Recruiter went well, IMO. She was very thorough in her description of the People Partner role, asked great questions, and gave very thoughtful responses to my own questions. She explained the rest of the interview process, and told me she wanted to move my application on to the next step which was a video interview with the Director of People Operations. This was on a Thursday morning. By Friday morning at 2:00 a.m. PST I was still up working when I saw an email come through from the Recruitment Coordinator requesting my availability for the video interview with the Director of People Ops. I responded back, and immediately, the the interview was scheduled - for the following Monday. I met with the Director of People Ops the following Monday and was asked a few questions about my experience. I was expecting a more structured interview (the standard behavioral/situational questions), and was not prepared to be "given the floor" to interview/ask him anything I wanted so soon. I asked about 4 questions, and as I reflect back, I think I could've asked more. But in all fairness, both he and the Sr. Global Recruiter had already answered a lot of my questions. It was a very unique (progressive, some might say) style of interviewing that I think could work very well; however, I would suggest maybe giving candidates a heads-up to be prepared to "interview your future boss". At the conclusion of that interview, I wrote a thank you note to the Director of People Ops and asked the Sr. Global Recruiter to forward it to him. I knew she was working in a different time zone and didn't expect to hear a response back so soon, but she has already responded to me saying she would share it with the Director. I am very, very impressed so far with the level of engagement and responsiveness thus far from the recruitment team. I'm not even through the process yet and so far, this has been a great candidate experience. At a time when candidates are being placed through multiple rounds of virtual interviews over extended periods of time (sometimes resulting in being ghosted from recruiters), it feels good to experience first hand how considerate VGS' recruitment team has been: in explaining next steps, moving quickly through each step, and being responsive to candidates. Will write another update once I complete the process!
- Be prepared to speak to your experience and tie that in with how it will benefit the organization. Also, I'm not sure if it is standard practice at VGS, but I would recommend having lots of questions prepared in case you find yourself in a similar situation.
