*Completely New Process* First you should know that there are United Airlines employees disguised as candidates. I am unsure if it is FAs or HR reps. But they are surveillance posing as FA candidates. They participate in group activities and sit with you at the tables. I "made" two of them because their acting skills were not that strong. There is always someone watching and listening. The Process 1.) When you arrive in the lobby they come and take up 10 people at a time to the 12th floor. They will first chexk ID. An HR person is there with a clipboard. 2.) You will be assigned a base and given a United Airlines lanyard. 3.) The base you are assigned is your group. They have a table for your group with the base name on the table. 4.) There is a Presentation. Then you break out into a group chat. You talk to another FA and your group about your story of "How Good Leads the Way". 5.) There are activities. A.) One is trying to prioritize the importance of issues going wrong on a plane. Everyone is given a slip (11 slips total? 10 slots) with an issue. The FAs (2) are watching as you and your group communicate to prioritize each issue. Once you figured it out the first 10 issues, the FAs give you another issue. Now you have to prioritize that issue and take out an issue......a few of the slips are Pilot needs an FA, Person having a medical issue, passenger worried about bags, passengers worried about pet in cargo, passenger with baby needs an FA, passenger needs water for medication, Child in the exit row, seating issue, etc. Hopefully you have idea of how the decision can be tough. Once you are done. Back to the room where the bases are located. Also know as the crew room. B.) Reach test and Jumpseat , there are Two HR representative here. C.) The uniform room, this is where you just look around and ask questions about the uniform. Hold it up to you and stand in the mirror to see how you look in the uniform. D.) The Room with all United's products. There is safety equipment, facts, the cart (already set up). Again you are just looking around and get a feel of everything. There is a sign saying you are under surveillance while in this room. E.) Simulation Video: You are one on one with an FA. They are watching how you respond to situations you are presented with. The first situation is an FA asking you to assist a passenger because he has his hands full making drinks. You have to talk to the screen ask if you are talking to the FA. Tips: (Smile and be happy about helping) . Another situation is a passenger would like to get off the aircraft during a diversion. So he can try to drive to his event. Tips: (Be empathic, graceful, and humble) Tell him you apologize for the division, inform him you will let the gate agent know about his situation or you can tell him the captain said we are not deplanning. And if there is a possibility he could deplane there isn't a guarantee that his checked bags will be retrieved at this time. Rephrase it your own way and have a warm tone when speaking to the "blank screen." as know as the passenger. You are also asked to read announcements during this simulation. You are given a lot information and then you have to fill in the blank. Example: The Captain didn't give you a time for the next update. Are you going to make up a time or just say momentarily or soon in replacement of the time. Or maybe skip that part since there isn't a time. That choice is up to you. There are candidates who tried each one and got a CTO. Again they are looking at your smile and body language when you come across an issue. 6.) In between these activities, you are in the "crew room" you can write out cards for children at the hospital, talk to other candidates, QR codes are in the room , have your cell phone with you to check them out. 7.) Once everything is done your group is thanked and you are told you will receive call within 24-48 hours. If you don't get a call in 24 hours there is a strong chance you have a tbnk email coming. More Information: They say bring ID. The HR representative did review your ID. Also they say bring be a resume. Many people who had CTOs did not bring a resume. It was forgotten. They didn't check or ask for the Resumes. I hope this helps. I don't plan to apply to this Airlines again but I am sure if this is where you want to be you will get the CTO! Just happy my experience, and time given to them wasn't wasted. P.S. There is a place to Store your Rollaboard and they have water and snacks.

My process took several months. I applied back in November I believe, perhaps sooner. Shortly after applying I got the assessment and then a WHILE after that they send the video introduction. About 6 weeks after that (it was over the holidays) I scheduled my live video interview. 2 hours before, they canceled it. I emailed them and 2 weeks later we rescheduled it. All questions must be answered in the STAR format and tney tell you this. A day after the live video interview, I received an email for the f2f. During the f2f, there's a group activity and towards the end they take you individually and have you read announcements and listen to calls from the flight deck. I'm guessing they're doing CJOs this time because some people were upstairs waiting for HR. Everyone is very pleasant and friendly.

The interview was comprised mostly of situational questions, but the interviewers also asked me to walk them through my resume. It became more of a conversation with them rather than a question-and-answer session. At the end of the interview, I was asked if there were any questions, I had for them.

The interview process at UAL was a complete joke. The group activities didn't make sense at all because it doesn't give people opportunities to show and prove themselves. They will not ask you any individual questions or trying to get to know you AT ALL. like they literally show you that they do not care about your skills, your experiences and who you are as an individual. they tell you to smile and greet people with smile, but only once i have seen them smile - when they brought us up at the beginning of the interview. THAT'S IT. I know people who speak multiple languages, have one or even 2 degrees and years of customer service experience (even being FA's) and they did not get the job. Instead, they ended up hiring 21 - 24 y.o with no experience, no second language and GERD only. For example, i'm 21 y.o. I speak no other language and work in retail for 1 year and i got CJO. I really do not understand that process and that culture. There are 2 group activities where you have to prioritize the tasks while getting plane ready for departure and another one when you work together with your group.

Preguntas de entrevista
  • How Good lead the way for you? that's it! one question during an entire interview process. at the end you will look at the video from the plane, reading announcements and pretending to help customer who complains.

Entrevista

I interviewed with the hiring manager and what she said shocked me: I asked her about growth within the company and upward or lateral mobility. She responded by explaining I could only grow within the company if the person above me quit or was fired. I asked her about financial incentives and incremental salaries increases if I went above and beyond the scope of the position. The hiring manager dodged the question at first, to which I clarified with "Will I be making the same salary I accept with this role after four or five years of working at the company?" She responded by prefacing the current gas prices and explaining salary increases are optional. She went on to say, "you should keep your head down, do your work and know that one day you may be rewarded for the time you've put in." I asked about disconnecting and PTO. She explained in this position I was expected to be on call and ready to respond to work situations all every evening, weekend and holiday. I asked the hiring manager about incentivizing the team members I manage and rewarding them for going above and beyond the scope of their positions. Her response was I'd have to "rob Peter to pay Paul" — ultimately explaining I'd have to take money from another team member's salary to reward someone. I asked about performance reviews and feedback. The hiring manager explained they were “very informal,” and if you were on her team, “you should know what you’re doing.” I would be cautious with this company and this role — as it felt like a toxic work environment where employee wellbeing is not a priority.

Interview was pretty comfortable. We worked in groups. One prioritizing the importance of situations during boarding, and then a one on one, where they ask you to answer questions to clips of a video of scenarios on a plane. Pretty simple.

Long. It takes a long time to get through all the stages of each part of the interview. If you are not confident you will most likely not make it through. If you freeze or start looking away or doing nervous ticks, you won't make it through.
