      I applied online for a User Experience Researcher in Munich Nine days later, a recruiter from London contacted me about the position. She sent me a couple of questions about my experience and asked me to reply with my answers (the questions were like "Describe an interesting data analysis project you worked on"). I replied to the email on the same day. The next day, I got an email from the recruiter saying she forwarded my answers to the hiring team and that she would write back whenever they provided feedback. Four days later, the recruiter emailed me saying that I was approved to go to the next step that consisted of two interviews: a quant focused and a qual focused. I sent her my availability (at least 5 different dates/times). Her email also had some standard questions such as "have you ever interviewed with Google", "do you have a location preference". I replied on the same day. The next day, the recruiter replied saying that she forwarded my availability to the scheduling team and that they were going to contact me in 1 to 2 business days. Her email had lots of tips about the interview process and about the position. It was really helpful. She also scheduled a quick call from her to explain me what the process was like. She called the next day. She was super nice and walked me through what the process would be like. It was a very quick call (~10 minutes). The next day, a recruiter coordinator emailed me with the times for both phone interviews. She did not mention which one would be the qual-focused and which one would be the quant-focused. Ten days later, I had the first call. It was the qual-focused interview. The interviewer was super nice. He told me his name, but I didn't understand (and I was too nervous to ask again). He had a strong foreign accent. He started by talking about himself and the team he worked in. Then he asked me to tell him a little bit about myself. Then he went on to ask more specific/hypothetical questions. First question was to test two website designs of a news website and decide which one is the best design. He asked me to walk him through each step. Then he asked me to decide which keyboard was the best out of two. Then he asked me how I would analyze transcriptions of interviews, and lastly he asked me (1) what do I do when I get a request that is ambiguous and (2) what do I do to get people's attention to what I have to say. At the end he asked me if I had any questions for him. Overall it was a great experience. I felt relaxed and confident the whole time. Three days later I had the quant-focused interview. This interviewer was also very nice. He was a Senior Quantitative User Experience. He told me his name and gave me a 30 second introduction about him and his team. The questions were less quant-related than I expected. The only really quant question was about a statistical test I mentioned I did for one of my studies and and another one about how to calculate effect size. The other questions were all about research design and what would you do in hypothetical situations (e.g., pick a favorite app that has a new design that people don't really like it and tell me what you'd do). The entire interview felt like a conversation and before I knew it, it was over. At the end he asked me if I had any questions for him and that was it. It was a really nice experience. He went on to say that he would send his feedback to my recruiter and she would contact me soon. The next day, I got an email from the recruiter asking how the calls went. She also said that as soon as she got feedback from the interviewers she'd follow up. Ten days later, the recruiter e-mailed asking if I had time to chat. From my experience, I knew this was a bad news call. The next day she called to let me know that she had not received feedback from the quant interviewer, but had from the qual interviewer. She talked about the general impressions the interviewer had (I actually did well), but the position I applied for is no longer available, so they'd stop the process there. The whole process from recruiter's first contact to rejection call lasted 33 days.

      Was reached out to directly from a recruiter, received an interview the following week. The interview itself was fine, however my issue is with how the recruiter followed back up with me. I was sent an email 2 weeks later (!!) after radio silence from the recruiter who wrote: “I hope this message finds you well. The reason for my outreach today is to provide you with an update on your application, and ask for any referrals in User Experience that you may know. Unfortunately we are not able to move forward with your application at this time but you can still apply for other roles after 12 months. Our team is looking at our top talent (that’s you), and asking if they know anyone who would be interested in starting their journey with Google. We are looking for people just like you for our team. YES, Google is still hiring!!!! We would be absolutely thrilled for you to send us anyone you know that has a skillset just like you! I look forward to connecting with you soon!” This email is so tone-deaf and insulting- Google is looking for “people just like me” to hire but clearly, didn’t want to hire the person who’s most like me: myself. I’m so annoyed and insulted by the incompetence of this email- it makes me want to not work at Google or recommend anyone I know work there.

      I was first contacted by a recruiter for a phone screening, and then followed-up with a technical interview about a week later. I had prepared for a week for this technical interview, but I suppose I did not prepare well enough? I was asked questions I found very difficult to understand and follow along-- I had asked the interviewer several times to repeat what they had said. I also found the interviewer to be a tad unprofessional: demeaning facial expressions and clear frustration in their voice. It was honestly humiliating. I know that I'm qualified for this role, but truly this interview took me by surprise and I did not perform my best. Maybe next time.
