After they review your application, if they are interested in you, they call for a phone screening. They'll ask you general questions about the position (i.e are you wanting full time or part time, do you have any restrictions in your schedule). If you meet their general requirements, they'll set up a interview with you at the salon you're applying for.
One interview after emailing back and forth. Was called the same day offered the position. Emailing included questions like what does customer service mean to you and what do you know about our company or the beauty and fashion industry.

After applying on Craigslist, I got a call from one of the HR recruiters, and set up an interview. The interview was in person, one on one, and I pretty much got offered the job right away, pending my background check.
