I was seating in a hotel lobby with my interviewer. At one point she asked my age and made a point to say that I look younger than who she might imagine has a resume like mine. She then told me that they don’t like to hire anyone over 35.

This is massively disappointing to write as I have always had such respect for Contiki, but the personal interview was unlike any interview I have had and needs to be spoken about. Bumping into other applicants leaving the personal interview, they looked frazzled and worried and warned me that it was "awful" and "intense" and they were visibly upset. The no-smiles, condescending attitude of the supervisor, Chloe, and her colleague (who barely spoke, only to hold a scolding look throughout the interview) was a series of patronising remarks to the rating of my presentation, how I did in the European history quiz and hypothetical situations. There was no effort to sell the company as an exciting place to work and was a terrible way of getting to know my capabilities as a Trip Manager, but rather a classic demonstration of bad management and no understanding of HR/interviewing protocols. It was an awful demonstration of what the work culture must be like and the company as a whole. I have traveled with Contiki in the past and had the most incredible time so this was a massive shock and disappointment. Contiki needs to review its approach as this interview experience was unprofessional in its way of treating a potential employee. This will result in driving those people, likely loyal customers, away from further business. I will no longer be suggesting friends for Contiki holidays who have since bought trips from my previous recommendations. Whole process: Submitting CV online, one-way interview answering questions via video, group interview where you have to present a 3 min speech on a topic given to you, and then a personal interview (if chosen after group interview).

Had to do a group presentation and then a 121 interview. 121 interview was awful. The most unprofessional interview I’ve ever had. Would never recommend this company. Swore at me during the interview, to the point I nearly walked out

I was very excited for this interview however I thought I should post based on other negative comments about the interviewer and her colleague. Application/interview process: I applied online the day applications opened with my CV and answered the application questions. Around two weeks later I was sent a link for a pre-recorded interview where around 5 or 6 questions were asked and you had about a minute to answer them. Another two weeks after that I was offered a spot in the group interview and given my speech topic. At the group interview we were consistently told they had enough spots for every one of us to be on the training trip, however they were looking for the right fit. We did a couple of team building activities, introduced each other etc. and then did our speeches. While the other candidates in the group interview were very encouraging during the speeches, the interviewers were making faces and whispering to each other which was not encouraging for the speaker. After the speeches were done we were told to go away for a couple hours and call in to see who would be invited back for one-on-one interviews which were typically later that afternoon or the following day. During the one-on-one interview the lead interviewer basically tore apart my speech, criticising it. She then went on to criticise my CV, my achievements and education history and my plans for the future. Meanwhile her colleague was sitting there silently taking notes (I believe she was training to be an interviewer). She asked me who did the best and worst out of the speeches from yesterday, and would ask me to recount parts of those speeches (if you are doing a group interview, I suggest writing in a notebook everyone's name, speech topic and a few takeaway points). I also had to rate those speeches against my own. I was asked about how to handle certain situations that a trip manager may face, however for every answer I was criticised for my response and hounded for a better answer. I left the interview feeling very unmotivated to work for Contiki with an interviewer like that. A week after the group interview, those who were successful were contacted (we had a group chat with some of the candidates who were successful). A few weeks later the unsuccessful people were contacted but by then we basically already knew. It's my understanding that the interview style is like this to see how people react under pressure, however there are better ways to test that without tearing people apart. I should also note I interview people daily and out of the interest of the candidate and the company I am representing, I would never utilise the interview style the interviewer/s seem to think works.

The intitial step in the hiring process brings you to the Trip Manager Application form where you have to answer to a few questions. If they think you may be suitable for the role, you will be invited to partake in a virtual video interview. You will have to answer to 6 questions, for each question you have three minutes to come up with an answer and 90 secondes to answer it.
